About Ian Harbage, Head Brewer:
“Everyone loves hops,” says Long Trail head brewer, Ian Harbage, “but barrels are where it’s really at.”

“I’m a sucker for anything fermented in wood with a wild culture,” he adds.

Harbage, grew up down the road in Woodstock, Vermont, where he (legally) acquainted himself with the brand. His interest in brewing developed during a study abroad in Lancaster, England, which sparked an exploration of homebrewing (with mediocre results) upon his return to school in Kalamazoo, Michigan.

Ian had no plans to pursue an “adult job” despite earning degrees in sociology and studio art, so he ended up back in Vermont where he “lucked into” a Brewers’ Assistant position at Long Trail.

He stuck with it, cleaned a bunch of tanks, and learned a lot along the way via a colorful cast of brewery characters and the completion of a degree through the Institute of Brewing and Distilling.

When he’s not in the brew house, you can find Ian hiking with the dog, riding his motorcycle, or tinkering around in the garage with one of his many car projects.
